Sumac

Each fall the wild sumac that has naturalized on cleared ground at the cul-de-sac on my street puts on a brilliant and fiery display of red and orange foliage.

This work features a heliographic print on cotton, with silk and cotton fabrics, Seminole piecework, extensive machine stitching, and hand beading. The left and bottom borders are cotton velveteen, which soaks up the light in photographs, but is wonderfully rich in color and deeply textural.
